The History of FishbuzzTV
Fishbuzz TV, a Truefire subsidiary, went live in October of 2007 with a goal to educate and entertain fisherman and boaters around the globe. Founded by Jon Brett, Fishbuzz TV is a free resource that’s user-friendly platform and high quality streaming video provides viewers with a first-class online destination for all things fishing and boating. The focal point of this whole operation centers on education. Having an educated fishing community serves in everyone’s best interest, especially in terms of cherishing and protecting what we love - to ensure its survival for future generations to appreciate.
Traditionally speaking, fishing and secrets go together like peas and carrots. It’s not outrageous to surmise there is no shortage on fisherman who would gladly share their spouse before they reveal their secret spot. That kind of selfish mentality breeds an egotistical, disconnected fishing community. This is something we would very much like to reverse. That said, our platform coupled with our extensive network of professional fisherman provides us with the proper rig for the job.
Our new website features a ton of new and exciting additions. One of which we are especially proud of is our Catch the Buzz Blog. This addition will feature reports, stories, tips, and much more from some of the brightest minds in the industry. Have a question? Post it on our forum to connect with the Fishbuzz community. Also, make sure to check out our online store to get some killer Fishbuzz swag!
Until then, tune in and Catch the Buzz!

Captain Jon Brett - Founder of FishbuzzTV
Jon Brett was born in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1982. Ever since, he has been toting around a fishing rod. Brett graduated from Canterbury High School in St. Petersburg, where he played varsity tennis all four years. He was recruited to play tennis at Bates College in Maine, where he stayed for two years before realizing he was not cut out for the cold weather. A week before his junior year started at Bates, Brett made the decision to move back down to Florida – because after all, “who likes to have the guides on your fly rod form ice cycles.”
Later that year, Brett settled in at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida where his tennis career took the backseat to education and fishing. While at Rollins, Brett became entrenched in Sociology, with a special interest in political and economic institutions. One particular project involved volunteering with a non-profit organization. Due to his passion for fishing, the choice was easy - the Coastal Conservation Association. After all, “anything school-related where I get to talk fishing is a no brainer.” The project’s primary focus was increasing awareness and promoting conservation at the grassroots level. This semester-long project gave Brett a much stronger sense of environmental consciousness along with the inspiration to get more involved in the preservation of Florida’s amazing fishery.
During his last semester at Rollins, Brett met with the Publisher for a highly acclaimed fishing magazine to discuss possible job opportunities – to link his love for fishing with his love for writing. “Next thing I knew, I was boarding a plane on my way to Maine to go be the “local” knowledge for a TV show on Striped Bass”. While Brett admits this was not his most amazing fishing adventure, “it was most certainly a learning experience, and one that proved pivotal in the formation of Fishbuzz TV.” Brett had always known that one of the main ingredients to living a complete life is to find something you enjoy and try to make a living at it.
