Bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee is very hot, the recent rains have brought the lake level up several inches and also helped to keep the water temperatures from rising, the bass are in a feeding mood! Yesterday I fished with 11 year old Larensos Fuller, it was his first artificial bait fishing trip on Okeechobee and he caught an 8 pound largemouth on a plastic worm! The young man is not alone, at this time the fish are in zones where inexpereienced or less experienced anglers can catch them with great success. We are averaging 20 to 30 fish per day although we found some bass schooling this week and caught over 50 fish, the bite is on and should continue. We are just now starting to see pods of small shad and the bass are honing in on them feeding like crazy.

The blue gill bite is the best I have seen in years not because we are catching them, because everyone is catching them and the size of the blue gill are very impressive. We are catching them on a Fly Rod and popping bug as well as on crickets with an old school bream buster pole (cane pole). Okeechobee is looking very healthy with native vegetation everywhere flourishing.
